Morning and Evening Dhikr – Part 6

11th Supplication
رَضِيتُ باللهِ رَبَّاً، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِيناً، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَى اللهُ عَلِيهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَبِيَّاً

Translated as: "I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion and with Muhammad(sws) as my Prophet.”

Transliteration: 'Radheetu billahi rabba, wa bil-islaami deena, wa bi-Muhammadin (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallama) Nabiyyan.'

Recite this:

- 3 times every Morning and Evening

Wisdom/Benefit:

- Rasul(sws) has promised the reciter of these words to be his guarantor on the of Day of Judgement and to take his hand and not leave him till he enters Jannah

- Whoever recites this 3 times morning and evening, will be pleased on Day of Resurrection

- Whoever recites these words and believes in them, Jannah will be mandatory upon him and he will taste  the sweetness of Iman

- He who recites these words after Adhan, his minor sins will be forgiven

- Gives us a sense of security through an Islamic Identity, not through material possessions, family lineage, beauty, or race etc.

Proofs/Hadiths:

1. There is no Muslim servant who says in the morning and the evening three times: I am pleased  with Allah as my Rabb, and with Islam as my religion and with Muhammed(sws) as a Prophet, except that it will be a right upon Allah to please him on the Day of Judgement.” [Ahmed, Abu Dawood 5072, Ibn Maajah, Tirmidhi. Classified as Saheeh by al-Haakim, an-Nawawi, ath-Thahabi & classified as Hassan by ibn Hajar & Ibn Baaz in ‘Tuhfatul-akhyaar. Classified as weak by al-Albaani in Dhaeef al Jami 5734]

2. Narrated Abu Said al-Khudri(ra), the Messenger of Allah(sws) addressed him saying: Oh Aba Said! Whoever is pleased with Allah as his Lord, with Islam as his religion and with Muhammed(sws) as a Prophet, Jannah would be mandatory for him”. [Saheeh Muslim 1884]

3. “Whoever says in the morning: “I am pleased...(the same statement), then I will be his guarantor and indeed I will take him by his hand until I help him enter Jannah.” [Classified as Saheeh by al-Albaani 2686 & classified as Hassan by al-Haithami & al-Munthiri]

4. “Whoever says when he hears the Adhan: And I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, Him Alone without any partner and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.  I am pleased with Allah as my lord, with Muhammad as a Messenger and with Islam as my religion. His sins will be forgiven.” [Saheeh Muslim 386]

***Our first identity, should be our Islamic Identity: “The strongest link of faith is to love someone in order to gain the pleasure of Allah...” [al-Iman by Ibn Abee Shaybah & it is Hassan]

12th Supplication
Translated as: “O Ever living One, Oh Eternal One, by Your Mercy I call on You to set right all my affairs. Do not place me in charge of my soul for even the blinking of an eye.”

(NB: The Arabic reads slightly wrong above, it should read 'Ya Hayyu', not Ya Hayya'. So the second 'YA' should have a 'dhamma' on top, not a 'fatha')

Transliteration: 'Yaa hayyu yaa Qayyoomu birahmatika 'astagheethu 'aslih lee sha'nee kullahu wa laa takilnee 'ilaa nafsee tarfata 'aynin.'

Recite this:

- Once every Morning and Evening

Wisdom/Benefit:

- You hand over your matters completely to Allah, trusting Him and expecting good in all that He decides for you, hence removing depression and suffering from your lives,

- This dua possibly contains the Greatest Names of Allah: Ya Hayyu, Ya Qayoom,

- This is the advice of the best father to his beloved daughter Fatima(ra)

Proof/Hadith:

1. It was a habit not to sleep after Fajr, so when Rasul(sws) went to see his daughter Fatima after Fajr, she had gone back to sleep. So he(sws) awoke her and asked her why she had gone back to sleep. She replied that it was because she had not slept well. And the Rasul(sws) replied as narrated by Anas bin Malik(ra): “What is preventing you from listening to my advice? Keep saying in the morning and the evening: (the dua aside)” [Classified as Saheeh by al-Hakim, at-Thahabi, al-Munthiri & classified as Hassan by al-Albaani ]

But remember, tie your camel first, then have tawakkul!

I seek refuge in You from the evil that is in it and from the evil that follows it."

Transliteration: 'Asbahnaa wa 'asbahal-mulku lillaahi Rabbil-'aalameen, Allaahumma 'innee 'as'aluka khayra haadhal-yawmi: Fathahu wa nasrahu wa noorahu, wa barakatahu, wa hudaahu, wa'a'oodhu bika min sharri maafeehi wa sharri maa ba'dahu'.

14th Supplication
Translated as: "We have entered a new day upon the natural religion of Islam, the word of sincere devotion, the religion of our Prophet Muhammed(sws), and the faith of our father Ibrahim. He was upright (in worshipping Allah) and a Muslim. He was not of those who worship others besides Allah."

Transliteration: 'Asbahnaa 'Alaa fitratil-'Islaami wa 'alaa kalimatil-'ikhlaasi, wa 'alaa deeni Nabiyyinaa Muhammadin (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallama), wa 'alaa millati 'abeenaa 'Ibraaheema, haneefan Musliman wa maa kaana minal-mushrikeen'.

Recite this:

- Once every Morning and Evening

Wisdom/Benefit:

- Shaitan’s aim is to deviate people from their ‘fitrah’: natural religion of Ibrahim(as), so this statement challenges shaytan’s efforts,

- It also confirms our faith in Allah.

Proof/Hadith:

1. Narrated Abdur-Rahman ibn Abzah(ra) that the Prophet(sws) used to say in the morning and the evening: “...(the dua)...” [Ahmed & Tabarani. Classified as Saheeh by an-Nawawi, Ibn Baaz & al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jami 4674)

15th Supplication
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

Translated as: "Glory is to Allah and all Praise is to Him" or "Allah is free from all imperfection and His is all Praise.”

Transliteration: 'Subhaan Allaahi wa bihamdihi.'

Recite:

100 times every Morning and Evening

Wisdom/Benefit:

- Light to recite, but heavy with reward,
- Allah loves for you to recite these words,
- The reciter will have a palm tree planted for him in Paradise,
- The one who recites this 100 times daily, will be forgiven all his sins (hence also a form of istigfaar),
- If you cannot pray Tuhajjud, or spend in the way of Allah, or fight your enemy, then recite this frequently,
- It is more beloved to Allah than a mountain of gold spent in the sake of Allah,
- Reciting it provides relief from hardship,
- Reciting this will quench one’s hunger during the time of ad-Dajjal

Proof/Hadith:

1. Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "There are two phrases that are light on the tongue but heavy on the scale of rewards and are dear to (Allah) the Gracious One. These are, subhanallah wa bi-hamdihi (All Glory is to Allah and all Praise to Him), and subhanallah al-azim (Glorified is Allah, the Great).'' [Muslim, Bukhari & Tirmidhi]

2. Abu Dharr(ra) reported that the Prophet(sws) said: “'Shall I tell you the words that Allah loves the most?' I said, 'Yes, tell me, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'The words most dear to Allah are Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi (Glorified is Allah with all praise due to Him)'.” [Muslim 2731]. In a different version: The Messenger of Allah (sws) was asked: ‘What is the best type of speech? He said: “What Allah has chosen for his angels or His servants: Subhaan-Allahi wa bihamdih”.

3. Jabir reported that the Prophet(sws) said: "Whoever says Subhan-Allah-al-Adheem wa bihamdihi (Glorified is Allah, the Great, with all praise due to Him), will have a palm tree planted for him in Paradise.'' [Tirmidhi]

4. Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever says, ‘Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,’ one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea. [Bukhari 6405]

5. Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (sws) as saying: “Whoever recites in the morning and in the evening (this tasbih) one hundred times, he would not bring on the Day of Resurrection anything excellent than this except one who utters these words or utters more than these words. [Muslim]

6. Narrated Aisha(ra) that the Messenger of Allah(sws) used to frequently say: ‘Subhaan Allahi wa bihamdihi Astagfirullah was Atoub ilaih.’ She stated: So I said: ‘Oh Messenger of Allah, I see you frequently repeating the following: ‘(the above dhikr)’. So he(sws) said: ‘My Lord has informed me about a sign that I will see it happening in my Ummah and when I see it; I should keep repeating that statement. I saw this sign: ‘When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest. And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes. Then exalt [him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.” [Muslim 484]

The sign was the conquest of Makkah as stated in Surah Nasr; and that was revealed as a sign of the coming death of the Prophet(sws). Allah chose for him(sws) to recite this tasbih as a Mercy as he neared his(sws) death.

7. “Whoever could not perform the night prayer, or could not spend his wealth in the way of Allah, or could not fight his enemy, the let him recite frequently ‘Subhaan Allahi wa bihmadih’, for verily, it is more beloved to Allah than a mountain of gold spent in the sake of Allah”. [Saheeh at-Targeeb 1541]
8.“And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, he would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected”. [As-Saffat, Ayah 143-44]

Mix Tasbeeh with Tawbah as Yunus(as) did. Amplify Istigfaar with Tasbeeh.
9.  The Prophet(sws) was describing hardship during the time of ad-Dajjal. Aisha(ra) asked: “What will be their food on that day? He(sws) said: “What the angels are satisfied with, at-Tasbeeh, at-Takbeer, at-Tahmeed and at-Tahleel.” [As-Silsilah As-Saheeha 3079]
